(A Poetic Lament)
It’s religion that will pave your way
and ‘Piety’ will always make you say :
”I’m utterly elated, I chose to stay
in my little realm of sand and shore”
but the sun is not my friend anymore.
We used to meet, the sun and I
outside where the cleric could spy
I’d guffaw at the nimbus hue,
not knowing what the cleric’d do
I’d enter the masjid, pray things galore
but the sun is not my friend anymore
It’s unfortunate that innocence left my grin
the moment the cleric held my chin
a ‘hush little one’ and an ‘I know your kin’
I’d never known how fast the world could spin,
I’d only ever heard it in gut-wrenching lore
but the sun is not my friend anymore.

August 23, 2023 at 6:31 amApart from the central theme of the poem the figures of speech used in the poem show the writer’s attractive command on a language

Symbol of light, peace, joy, calmness and satisfaction.
Anyhow nice approach keep it up.
Fatima Alisays:
August 23, 2023 at 7:02 amI used ‘Sun’ as a symbol because ‘Sun’ shows strength. ‘Moon’ shows tenderness. Victims lose their strength, hence remain silent. Which is why the experience becomes even more agonizing. They lose their tenderness too, but that wasn’t the topic of this poem. Let’s write one in collaboration? An extension of this poem, titled: ‘The Moon Is Not My Friend Anymore’?
Hamid Khansays:
August 23, 2023 at 7:27 amI totally agree but in such a situation Hope stands more dominant than strength and Moon symbolizes hope.
Yeah sounds good count men in

August 23, 2023 at 7:57 amA flawless composition indeed, that provides a profound contemplation on the harsh treatment we experience during our formative years under the guise of religious instruction. It is yet yet another tactic used widely in our society to stifle curiosity and creativity and promote dogma. Kudos to the writer for shedding light on this issue.

August 23, 2023 at 8:56 amI’m glad that people are accepting this deconstruction of the image of our local theological environments. Thank you for your support Qasim!
