So..
You read Shakespeare, Dostoevsky, philosophy too
You can recite the poignant verses of Yeats’ ‘Sailing to Byzantium’
And the passionate lines of a Pablo Neruda love poem
You seek enlightenment, sophistication, religion
And you know Darwin’s theory of evolution
But what do you do?
With what you know
When you close your books
And bibles too
And the words of all the greats are gone
Are you
Fair of thought
In all the battles you’ve fought
Romantic
Or pedantic
Sickeningly sweet
Or sullenly sour?
Can you
Stand by your word
Or only follow the herd
Only pray when others see
Or alone with equal Glee
Sing with the peasants
Or have you lost the common touch?
Do you
Narrow your view
For the favour of a few
Brawl like a brute
When your opinions they refute
Pray to your angels
But scheme like a demon?
So…
You read philosophy
For what..?
And Shakespeare too
So what..
Oh…behave!
