- Painting by Malcolm T. Liepke
Stranger than strangers
perhaps our hearts know what they have become
yet your mind likes to entangle, what I can’t detangle
Beloved, will another drink cure this numb?
Quieter than quietude
you are a mute battle, and I a distant daydream
and so your coffee grows cold, and I lose more hold
Dearest, is it the death of our gleam?
Picturesque than a painting
your solitary pose, your forced mannerism
reminds me of a portrait so blue, reminds me why I loved you
Beautiful, your resignation waters my cynicism
Heart-rending, our hearts!
bitter like unattended wine, cadaverous like these walls
how you shut your eyes, and how my gaze openly cries
Stranger, outside this room, is it a farewell that calls?
