I Wanted to Paint You
I am alone
for all that I have lost
In this cold, vapid room
Sheltered from this world
and the icy frost
I am alone
for all that I have said
My foolish words
which cut like a knife
Oh how your trusting heart bled
I am alone
for all that I dream
I wanted to paint you
before you are in my memories lost
Instead, I painted a fire
Oh how the flames scream
I am alone
for all that I have wept
Sitting on this chair
alone in the midnight hour
Yearning for you, I have not slept
I am alone
for all that I have admired
The flickering flames
of passion dance
for all that I have desired
Oh, how I wanted to paint you.
About the winner:
I’m Brenda Lynn Rudman – born and bred in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. I love writing because I love words and creating with them. It’s a creative process and an outlet. When my heart and head want to burst with all my emotions and they have nowhere to go but to my pen and paper. Writing can be painful when you write a poem with tears but it can also be fun.
