Trapped
Behind my facade
of feigned normality
Lurks my dark visage
of agonising anxiety
Caged in my head
this panic I dread
Trapped in my mind
stuck in rewind
Intrusive thoughts that prod, poke
and make me choke
In this murky abyss, of rationality sought
Battlefield rife with monsters I have fought
How do I escape
from this prison in my brain
If I can’t bend these bars
and taste freedom again
Caged in my head
these obsessions I dread
Trapped in my mind
angels and demons entwined
About the winner:
I’m Brenda Lynn Rudman – born and bred in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. I love writing because I love words and creating with them. It’s a creative process and an outlet. When my heart and head want to burst with all my emotions and they have nowhere to go but to my pen and paper. Writing can be painful when you write a poem with tears but it can also be fun.
